Drum role please….

Friday night, Joe and I donned the duds and gallivanted to one of our favorite local posh spots for an evening of friendship, giving and fabulous food. Reminiscent of prom, the much more grownup Promise Ball is put on all in the name of JDRF, a highly regarded organization fighting to find a cure for juvenile diabetes.

First, attending this event always makes me so grateful for the health of my children. Type I diabetes strikes children suddenly, makes them dependent on injected or pumped insulin for life, and carries the constant threat of devastating complications. My respect and empathy for these children and their families goes beyond words.

The evening began in a sea of black. But not to worry, at least three other fish out of water dawned fabulously loud RED (I didn’t want Joe to lose track of me or anything…) as we browsed the silent auction.

It’s always amazing to see the serious cash some folks drop on things like wine (albeit not the $7 non fancy but yummy stuff we sip), jewelry, photo ops and spa packages. There was even a RED hot tricycle for the little ones. I always say I am present at these events to drive the bids up. Just please don’t let me win too many as our Christmas budget would easily be in the RED before June if I did.

As the night progressed, Joe and his cute co-anchor geared up to do their thing as event emcees. We always giggle at the fact she has known him longer than he and I have been married - feelin’ my pain sista. While Joe worked the crowd,

I chatted with our city’s finest and favorite morning weather guy.

Before the scene got too stormy, we all jetted off to the preferred after hours spot, The Golden Bee. Complete with an authentic pub moved all the way from England, Yard glasses, cheese dip, and bar-wide sing-alongs the experience of being “BEED” cannot be surpassed:

And what better place than an English pub to meet famous Brit look-alike? He turned out to be completely enamored with my husband, requesting no more than 127 pictures with him.

So then of course then I had to have MY picture taken with him because he does look so much like that cute Jude Law.

As you can see- by now our elegant evening declined toward all-out nuttiness, but from Red to Black Tie to Gold, a better evening we could not have foretold.

Love the dress! You look gorgeous. And thanks for the recommendation for the $7 wine. Our rule in the house is wine UNDER $10, so I’m definitely going on the hunt for that one!
